Very common is the saying, “health is wealth”. Some people even go further to say ‘one needs wealth to maintain good health’ and it is a growing notion among people today. One question that comes to mind is “How much wealth do we need in order to stay healthy?” The answer is not so common.

The following are 5 (five) simple ways we can adopt, to maintain a good health with no or little money:


#1. Clean Environment
A clean environment is very important at all times. It goes a long way in preventing diseases like malaria, diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, etc. An environment is said to be clean when drainages are not clogged, waste is properly disposed, and no water is left uncovered.

#2. Personal Hygiene
This has to do with the general good care of the body like having regular bath, brushing the teeth, wearing clean clothes and underwear, etc.

Certain parts of our body are always in constant contact with the environment. For example, we use our hands to open doors, to cover our mouth when yearning, coughing or sneezing, to receive handshakes, etc. It is therefore important to wash our hands often as possible to prevent infections.

#3. Taking Water
Drinking clean water is of extreme importance to maintaining and enjoying good health. Drinking enough water each day helps to regulate temperature and PH balance in the body. It also helps in osmoregulation and easy excretion of waste products from the body.

Water enhances the functions of the kidneys and helps to promote a healthy bladder. It is advisable to take a glass of water first thing in the morning as this helps to cleanse the bowels and get the body ready for digestion.

The human brain is said to function better with the right amount of water intake. The skin looks fresher and younger when one takes much water. Medical experts advise that one takes up to 8 or 10 glasses of water daily.

#4. Exercises
To enjoy good health, it is extremely important to engage in physical activities regularly. Exercises helps to burn excess calories and fats accumulated in the body. If these excess calories are left in the body, they could lead to high blood pressure and clogging of the blood vessels and the heart.

Exercises can take place anywhere and anytime. We can decide to walk to our destination instead of taking a cab.

#5. Rest
It is seriously important to have enough rest. Overworking the body makes one feel worn out and weak. It is necessary that adequate time is created every day for rest.

The human body needs at least 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep every day. This helps the internal organs to relax and help us feel refreshed. The importance of rest can be seen in the rate at which one assimilates information after having adequate rest.

In conclusion, putting all these tips into practice will help you achieve a healthy lifestyle at little or no cost.
