Building on the Solid Rock

bible study

TEXTS: Matthew 7:24-27; I Corinthians 3:10-15

Everybody is building either consciously or unconsciously. So then, your building cannot be better than your foundation and the materials used. Any building that will last long must be built based on wisdom or else they will collapse (Prov. 24:3 & 4). Each building faces the same test.

The Rock: Your Foundation (Why the Rock?)
>   It is unmovable (Psalm 125:1)
>   It is strong (Jer. 50:34)
>   It has ability to withstand external forces (Matt. 7:24 & 25)
>   Jesus is the Rock (I Cor. 10:4c)

Building Principles
1.  Building by knowledge (II Tim. 2:15, Prov. 8:20-30)
2.  Building with heed (I Cor. 3:10)
3.  Building with diligence (Eccl. 10:18)
4.  Building with grace (I Cor. 15:10)
5.  Building in prayers (Jude 20)
6.  Building with the right materials (I Cor. 3:12):
      > Mentor (I Cor. 4:15, Gal. 4:19)
      > Friends (I Cor. 15:33)
      > Gospel Songs / Videos (Col. 3:16)

Purpose of Building
1.  For earthly purpose (I Pet. 2:5)
2.  For heavenly purpose (I Pet. 1:4)

In conclusion, we are adding a block to our building (our lives) with every step we take per time, so then we ought to take earnest heed to what we do; knowing that on the last day each of us shall give account of what we have built.
